★★★★☆ Mosesian Center for the Arts, Watertown. Maurice Emmanuel Parent’s modern-dress take for Actors Shakespeare Project locates fairyland in the ‘70s disco-ball, glam-rock era, which gradually takes over everything, as it will…. In an imaginative switcheroo, it’s the four mismatched lovers whose behavior is over the top, while the rude mechanicals are sincere and restrained. As a result, each group engenders more laughter than in most productions. Pyramus and Thisbe, for instance, is hilarious because these amateurs are so determinedly trying to do it well; it helps that Thisbe (Evan Taylor) is dressed and behaves like Beyoncé at her most regal. Everyone is excellent, though I have special fondness for Thomika Marie Bridwell as the only Hermia who has ever made me crack up. Cutting the play to 100 minutes/no intermission is just right. Enthusiastically recommended through May 4. Actorsshakespeareproject.org. (Photo of the Grand Finale by Nile Scott Studios.)
